Spires (L) and Hamminga

The annual Pearland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (PCPAAA) Christmas Banquet was bittersweet this year. The association took the opportunity to say goodbye to Community Services Liaison Officer Daniel Hamminga, who has served in that role for three years.

Held Saturday (Dec. 12) at the Hilton Garden Inn, the banquet honored volunteers who are active in the organization and gave the opportunity for City leaders to mingle with members of the organization and the police department.

Much to Hamminga’s surprise, Assistant Chief Johnny Spires asked him to come to the front of the room and presented him with a plaque that represented the department’s appreciation for his service in the nine years he has served Pearland.

“I knew this was going to be a little about me,” Hamminga said. “I had no idea it was going to be a LOT about me! You guys are so special to me and I can’t thank you enough.”

Hamminga presented the organization with a wooden plaque with incoming Board of Directors pictures displayed.

The PCPAAA also presented Hamminga with a personalized knife in a shadow box, two shirts, a poster signed by members and a gift card for him and wife, Lindsay, to use toward their new business venture. The Hammingas recently opened The Venue at Old Town Spring, which is an event and wedding venue.

Officer Oscar Pena is currently training to take over for Hamminga when he officially leaves in January.
